What Cambridge 0606 covers

The Cambridge 0606 syllabus goes beyond standard IGCSE Maths. It introduces topics that students will encounter again in A-Level Mathematics or A-Level Further Mathematics. The main topic groups are:

  • Algebra and functions. Quadratics, inequalities, indices and surds, factors of polynomials, and the modulus function.
  • Logarithms and exponentials. Laws of logarithms, solving exponential equations, and transforming data.
  • Trigonometry. Radians, circular measure, arc length and sector area, trigonometric identities, and solving trig equations.
  • Calculus. Differentiation (including chain rule, product rule, quotient rule) and integration (including definite integrals and area under a curve).
  • Series and permutations. Binomial theorem, arithmetic and geometric progressions, and permutations/combinations.

How 0606 differs from 0580

0580 vs 0606: not the same subject

IGCSE Maths 0580 covers the standard Cambridge Mathematics curriculum. 0606 Additional Mathematics sits above it. Calculus does not appear in 0580 but is central to 0606. Algebraic proof questions in 0606 require a level of precision in written working that 0580 does not demand as consistently. Students who take both subjects need to keep the two exam styles distinct in their preparation.

In Cambridge 0606 exams, marks follow working steps. A student who reaches the right answer without showing the correct method can lose most of the method marks even if the final answer is correct.
