IGCSE Maths is the broad core. Add Maths is the deeper, more algebraic extension.
Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 is the core Maths qualification almost every IGCSE student takes. It covers number, algebra, geometry, statistics, probability, and problem solving across a wide range of contexts. Cambridge Additional Mathematics 0606 is a separate, optional subject taken alongside 0580. It goes deeper into functions, algebra, trigonometry, calculus readiness, and symbolic reasoning. Most students and teachers treat it as a bridge towards A-Level or IB Maths.
They are not the same exam, not the same paper structure, and not the same level. A student who scores well in IGCSE Maths is not automatically ready for Add Maths. Add Maths assumes faster, more confident algebra. That gap catches students who have not checked their foundations first.
