What really transfers

Topic coverage is only part of the story

Students sometimes complete 0606 by memorising steps and still find A-Level unexpectedly hard. The reason is that A-Level questions require students to choose the right method independently, not follow a familiar pattern.

  • Algebraic fluency. 0606 trains students to handle complex algebraic manipulation. A-Level extends this further -- errors that were survivable in 0606 become blockers at A-Level. Students who understand why each step works, not just which step to do, carry this fluency forward.
  • Calculus reasoning. 0606 introduces differentiation and integration. A-Level goes deeper with implicit differentiation, integration by parts, and differential equations. A student who understands the chain rule as a concept (not a memorised formula) adapts to these extensions much more easily.
